Location Tami Island is located off the north coast of New Guinea, seven nautical miles south-southeast of Finschafen. Nearby is Wonam Island. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in th e Morobe District in the Territory of New Guinea. Today located in Morobe Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Wartime History During late 1942 or early 1943, occupied by a small Japanese garrison. By early October 1943, all Japanese had withdrawn from the island. American missions against Tami November 25, 1942–September 21, 1943 On October 3, 1943 Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) 331 Radar Station (331 RS) arrived on Tami Island.
