Ship History A wooden vessel built in China during 1912, as a sister ship to MV Buka. Operated by the German administration in Deutsch Neu Guinea (German New Guinea). Named "Nusa" for Nusa Island near Kavieng where it was usually based in Kavieng Harbor. On September 11, 1914 captured by the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and renamed HMAS Nusa and placed under the command of Commander J. M. Jackson with fifteen soldiers including Private H. L. Henley and operated from Rabaul, New Britain and New Ireland. On October 10, 1914 departed Rabaul bound for Talasea on the north coast of New Britain where it was tipped off that a German vessel was anchored and surprised and captured SMS Komet at a location known as Komethafen (Komet Harbour). In December 1914 used on a reconnaissance to Angoram (Angorum) and the Sepik River area. Wartime History During the inter-war years, used by Australian Administration in New Guinea. Used by the Australian administration during World War II. On May 1, 1942, while anchored at Yule Island Nusa transported Lt. Bevlock pilot of P-39F 41-7186 to Port Moresby, arriving during the afternoon of May 2. Ultimate fate unknown.
