Ship History Aoba 青葉 was the lead ship in the Aoba-class of heavy crusiers. Built by Mitsubishi Nagasaki Shipyard. Laid down January 23, 1924 No. 2 slipway. Launched 25 September 1926. Comissioned September 20, 1927. Named Aoba after Mount Aoba a volcano near Maizuru. PARTIAL HISTORY On May 12, 1942 Aoba and Kako arrived at Queen Carola Harbor on Buka Island and both departed on May 14, 1942 bound for Truk. PARTIAL HISTORY Wartime History Damaged July 24–25, 1945.
