On February 23, 1942 Headquarters, 5th Air Force was terminated by General Lewis H. Brereton and departs for India.

On June 15, 1944 HQ Fifth Air Force movesto Nadzab.
On August 10, 1944 HQ Fifth Air Force moves to Owi Airifeld.
On January 29, 1945 HQ Fifth Air Force moves to San Jose Airfield on Mindoro in the Philippines.
On April 1, 1945 HQ Fifth Air Force moves to Clark Field on Luzon in the Philippines.
