Aircraft History
Built by Douglas Aircraft Company. Constructors Number unknown. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as A-20G-40-DO Havoc serial number unknown. Disassembled and shipped overseas to the South West Pacific Area (SWPA) and reassembled.

Wartime History
Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 3rd Bombardment Group (3rd BG), 13th Bombardment Squadron (13th BS). No known nose art or nickname. When lost, engines R-2600-23 serial numbers unknown. Armed with .50 caliber machine guns makers and serial numbers unknown. Likely, this was a brand new aircraft being flown to the squadron for assignment.

On June 11, 1944 took off from Hollandia Airfield (APO 565) piloted by 2nd Lt. Harvey E. Johnson as one of seven A-20s on a flight to Nadzab Airfield accompanied by gunners and mechanics for maintenance on squadron aircraft. Maintenance work done on these eight aircraft included repair of battle damage, engine overhauls and 300 hour inspections on two plus other miscellaneous repair work needed on all planes.

Mission History
On June 13, 1944 took off from Nadzab Airfield piloted by 2nd Lt. Harvey E. Johnson with an unidentified passenger who was a "U.S. Army officer" on a flight bound for Hollandia Airfield (APO 565). When this aircraft failed to return it was officially listed as missing. Likely, this aircraft was A-20G Havoc 43-21304 crashed near Musak north of the Ramu Valley in New Guinea.

Search
Afterwards, no search was conducted for this aircraft.

Memorials
Johnson was officially declared dead the day of the mission. Because the flight was deemed to be non-combat he did not earn the Purple Heart, posthumously. Johnson is memorialized at Manila American Cemtery on the tablets of the missing.
