Aircraft History Built by North American Aviation (NAA). Constructors Number 87-8762. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as B-25D-20 Mitchell serial number 41-30597. Ferried overseas via Hickam Field then across the Pacific to Australia. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 22nd Bombardment Group (22nd BG) "Red Raiders", 2nd Bombardment Squadron (2nd BS). Squadron Number 6 painted on the front center of the nose. Nicknamed "Batchelor Made" with the nose art of a seated nude woman with one arm behind her head and the other arm at her side. Assigned to pilot Summers and later Amos. Assigned to crew chief Barcovic. On October 14, 1943 at 8:15am took off from Dobodura on the plane's first mission as part of a mixed formation of B-25s and B-26s from all four squadrons from the 22nd BG on a bombing mission against Alexishafen. Over the target, the formation was targeted by inaccurate medium anti-aircraft fire that and bombed a gun battery and caused several fires. This B-25 returned with a small shrapnel hole in the damage. On January 31, 1944 transfered to the 345th Bombardment Group (345th BG) "Air Apaches", 500th Bombardment Squadron (500th BS). Retained the nickname "Batchelor Made". Assigned to crew chief Tate. On September 20, 1944 transfered to the 38th Bombardment Group (38th BG) "Sun Setters", 405th Bombardment Squadron (405th BS) "The Green Dragons". Renamed "Hardship 2nd" and stripped to bare metal. Used as a fat cat transport for non-combat flights until at least May 1945. Fate Ultimate fate unknown, likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
