THURSDAY, 14 OCTOBER 1943
CHINA (Fourteenth Air Force): Four B-25's attack shipping in the Amoy area, damaging 2 freighters, and also bomb Amoy Airfield.
SOUTH PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS (Thirteenth Air Force): A single B-24 on armed reconnaissance bombs four barges west of Taiof, leaving
one sinking. The 371st Bombardment Squadron (Heavy), 307th Bombardment Group
(Heavy), ceases operating from Guadalcanal and returns to base on Espiritu
Santo, New Hebrides with B-24's.
SOUTHWEST PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS (Fifth Air Force): Medium bombers pound Cape Gloucester. Three
others fly harassing strikes against Dili and Lautem. A mixed formation of B-25s and B-26s from all four squadrons of the 22nd BG took off from Dobodura on a bombing mission against Alexishafen. Over the target, the formation was targeted by inaccurate medium anti-aircraft fire that and bombed a gun battery and caused several fires. Only B-25D "Batchelor Made" 41-30597 returned with a small shrapnel hole in the damage.
USN: USS Grayback (SS-208) fires torpedoes that damage and sinks Kozui Maru.
Philippines: Japanese established the Republic of the Philippines (Second Philippine Republic) under President José P. Laurel. as a puppet state in the Philippines.
USN: Launch of USS Franklin (CV-13) at Newport News Shipbuilding in Newport News, Virgina.
