Location
Bayug Airfield was located to the east of Burauen (Burouen). inland from the eastern coast of Leyte in Leyte Province of the Philippines. Also known as Burouen Airfield or Burauen Airfield. Further to the east is San Pablo and San Pablo Airfield. To the north is Buri Airfield and beyond Buri. To the south was the Dulag-Burauen Road and beyond the Daguitan River (Marabang). To the west was the north-south Burouen-Dagami Road.

Construction
Built by the Japanese, in a "V" shaped layout with the runway on one side with a parallel taxiway and revetments. and beyond another taxiway with revetments.

Wartime History
During late October 1944, the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) 7th Independent Tank Company with eleven Type 89 tanks were deployed near Bayug Airfield. On October 20, 1944 after the U.S. landings on eastern Leyte, three tanks advanced eastward to engage the Americans at Dulag and were destroyed. The remaining tanks were abandoned.

During late October 1944, liberated by the U.S. Army. After liberation, work began to repair Bayug Airfield and nearby Buri Airfield and San Pablo Airfield. By November 25, 1944 work was ceased, but the 5th Air Force (5th AF) continued to use Bayug Airfield to a limited capacity supported by an aviation battalion.

Today
Disused since the Pacific War. In June 1946 photographed as part of a U.S. Army Signal Corps as non-reportable airport for the Real Estate Division, Office of Chief of Engineers, Army Forces, Western Pacific. Today, the former runway area is replanted with rice fields.
