Location Dewey Boulevard Airfield was located in the Ermita District of southern Manila on the southern portion of Dewey Boulevard (Roxas Boulevard) near the American Embassy and Ambassador's residence. Also known as Dewey Boulevard Strip or Dewey Boulevard Field. Construction The Japanese used the southern part of the Dewey Boulevard as an improvised runway. Wartime History During late 1944 until late February 1945 Dewey Boulevard was used as an improvised runway to disperse fighter aircraft away from heavily bombed Nichols Field. Also used as an emergency strip to disperse fighter aircraft and as the take off point for a few kamikaze missions. Japanese units dispersed at Dewey Boulevard Airfield 252 Kokutai (A6M5 Zero) 381 Kokutai (J2M3 Jack) American Liberation On February 20, 1945 the Dewey Boulevard Airfield area was liberated by the U.S. Army. When captured, American forces discovered several intact Jacks inside the compound of the U.S. Embassy plus a few A6M5 Model 52 Zeros from 252 Kokutai. J2M3 Jack Manufacture Number 3008 Captured intact, taken to Clark Field for technical evaluation J2M3 Jack Manufacture Number 3013 Tail 81-124 Captured. Today Disused as a runway since the Pacific War. Postwar, Dewey Boulevard was renamed Roxas Boulevard.
