Old San Jose Airfield (San Jose Airfield) Occidental Mindoro Philippines

U.S. Army 1934
Location
Old San Jose Airfield is located to the southeast of San Jose near the Mindoro Sugar Refinery in Occidental Mindoro on Mindoro Island in the Southwestern Tagalog Region (MIMAROPA Region) of the Philippines. To the west is Elmore Field and the Bugsanga River. During the 1944–1945 period, known as Old San Jose Airfield versus the newly built San Jose Airfield (McGuire Airfield).

Construction
Built prewar as a single runway surfaced with grass.

Wartime History
During 1942, occupied by the Japanese and used by the Japanese Army Air Force (JAAF).

On December 15, 1944 after the U.S. Army landed at San Jose, this area was occupied without opposition by the end of the day. Near the runway was the wreckage of Ki-49 Helen from 74th Hiko Sentai with a burned out center destroyed while parked on the the ground.

At San Jose Airifeld (Old) and the vicinity, Allied Technical Intelligence Unit (ATIU) noted the wreckage of three Ki-43-II Oscars, six Ki-84 Franks, four Ki-45 Nicks, one F1M2 Pete, one D3Y Judy, two B6N Jill, one Ki-51 Sonia and one Ki-49 Helen.

During the U.S. occupation of Mindoro, this airfield was never repaired or used. Instead, the Americans built new airfields in the vicinity including San Jose Airfield (McGuire Airfield) on the coast and later Hill Airfield further inland and Elmore Field to the west and Murtha Airfield to the southeast.

Ki-49-II Helen
Assigned to the 74th Hiko Sentai.

Today
Disused since the Pacific War.
