Location Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) in Tagalog means "Cemetery of the Heros". Also translated as "Heroes Cemetery" and is located at Fort William McKinley in Taguig to the southeast of Manila. To the north is Manila American Cemetery. Background In May 1947, established as Republic Memorial Cemetery for burials of Filipinos who served in the Pacific War on the Allied side and includes a tomb of the unknown soldier, memorial gate, black stone walls, and World War II guerrilla pylon. On 28 May 1967, Presidential Proclamation No. 208 was signed by President Ferdinand E. Marcos to reserve 142 hectares from the Fort Bonifacio Military Reservation for the future expansion of LNMB. As of October 2003, there were 43,592 remains interred at the Libingan Ng Mga Bayani including 32,268 remains of military personnel that died as Prisoners Of War (POW) at Camp O'Donnell. On November 18, 2016 at at 9:00am the body of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos who was a World War II veteran and former Prisoner Of War (POW) was flown from Marcos Museum and Mausoleum (Ferdinand E. Marcos Presidential Center) in Batac, Ilocos Norte Province and buried at noon at Libingan ng mga Bayani in a closed ceremony with military honors and was buried in a marble tomb with a cauldron with an eternal flame. In attendence was his widow Imelda Marcos, his children and sibling Fortuna Marcos-Barba plus a hundred guests including members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. The public only became aware of the burial shortly before and was met with controversy with roughly half the population opposed.
