SOUTHWEST PACIFIC AREA (SWPA, Fifth Air Force): In the Owen Stanley Range, A-20s bomb and strafe troops and installations at Sangara, Arehe, and
along the Popondetta-Andemba Road and P-40s strafe Kokoda Airfield and bridges on the trail near Wairopi and troops at Myola, Efogi, and Kagi.
USMC: Returning from a mission, ditched is SBD-3 Dauntless 03293 pilot Captain Rubin Iden (KIA, gunner rescued) and ditched SBD-3 Dauntless 03294 pilot 2nd Lt. John W. Zuber (crew rescued).
