SATURDAY, 30 OCTOBER 1943
Moscow: The Conference of Foreign Ministers ends after considering certain politico-military issues. Although a tripartite conference (Br-U.S.-Soviet), Ch representatives have participated in some phases. Conferees agree to demand "unconditional surrender" of Germany and establish a world organization for peace. Discussions lead to establishment later in London of European Advisory Commission to study and make recommendations on problems relating to termination of the war in Europe.
CHINA (Fourteenth Air Force): In China, 7 B-25's and 12 P-40's pound the motor
pool and barracks at Shayang; Nine P-38's hit the Kiukiang (Chiuchiang, Jiujiang) dock area; two interceptors
are claimed shot down. Lost is P-38G Lightning 42-13415 pilot 2nd Lt. Thomas D. Harmon (rescued).
SOUTH PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS (Thirteenth Air Force): Kara Airfield is bombed by 16 B-24's and shortly afterwards
is hit by 90+ USN dive bombers escorted by USN and AAF fighters; Six B-25s attack Kieta Airfield and other targets at Kieta are hit by twelve P-39's and USN aircraft;
and the Tonolai Harbor area is hit by eight P-40's and seventeen USN planes.
SOUTHWEST PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS (Fifth Air Force): B-25s strafe barges
in Rein Bay. Lost is B-25D 41-30318 pilot 1st Edward A. Murphy, Jr. (MIA) and P-70 Havoc 39-785 pilot 1st Lt. Donald G. Hyland (MIA).
USN: U.S. aircraft sink Japanese transport Ujigawa Maru near Kieta, Bougainville, Solomons, 06°20'S, 155°45'E.
USAAF B-24 attacks Japanese destroyer Satsuki 20 miles south of Mussau, 04°40'S, 149°20'E.
