    Kalkas (Kakas) North Sulawesi Province Indonesia

Location
Lat 1° 10' 40N Long 124° 53' 7E  Kalkas is located at an elevation of 2,070' / 630m on the southern edge of Lake Tondano near the the eastern tip of the Minahassa Peninsula on Sulawesi (Celebes). Also spelled Kakas. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Today located in Minahasa Regency in North Sulawesi Province (Sulawesi Utara) in Indonesia.

Wartime History
At the start of the Pacific War, the Japanese Navy No. 1 Yokosuka Special Naval Landing Force (1st Yokosuka SNLF) landed on both sides of Manado, then advanced toward Kakas the following day. The Sasebo 2nd SNLF landed at Kema and advanced towards Kakas and Lake Tondano.

Meanwhile, the 1st Yokosuka Special Naval Landing Force (1st Yokosuka SNLF) under Commander Toyoaki Horiuchi took off from Davao to conduct a paratrooper drop over Langoan Airfield. The 1st Company captured Langoan and the 2nd Copany advanced to Kakas and Lake Tondano Seaplane Base.

In January 1942, Royal Netherlands East Indies Army (KNIL) "Tactical Command Kakas" commanded by Captain W. C. van den Berg was defending the area between Kakas to Langoan. Langoan Airfield was defended by the 41 brigade with 15-18 men each under the command of 1st Lieutenant J.G. Wielinga and reinforced by overvalwagens(armored cars) commanded by Sergeant-Major H.J. Robbemond.

Afterwards, occupied by the Japanese for the duration of the Pacific War. During 1945 attacked by Allied bombers and fighters.

Postwar
During early October 1945, occupied by the "Menado Force" comprised of Australian and Dutch forces.
