Location Lat 1° 11'0" Long 127° 54'0" Kaoe is located on the eastern coast of the northwestern arm of Halmahera Island (Pulau Halmahera) in the Molucca Island Group (Molucca Islands). Also known as Kao or Kau. Allied wartime spelling "Kaoe". Borders Kaoe Bay (Kau Bay). Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Netherlands East Indies (NEI). Today located in North Maluku Province (Provinsi Maluku Utara) in Indonesia. Wartime History During early 1942 occupied by the Japanese. Attacked by Allied aircraft starting in the middle of 1944. Occupied by the Japanese until the official surrender of Japan in September 1945.
