Location Lat 15° 39' 27N Long 120° 46' 7E Guimba is located at an elevation of 114' / 34m in Nueva Ecija Province on Luzon in the Philippines. To the southeast is Cabanatuan. Wartime History On January 26, 1945 at daybreak, advance reconnaissance units of the U.S. Army 6th Infantry Division liberated Guimba and within hours, established outposts nine miles further east along the Licab River (Chico Pampanga River) and La Paz in Pampanga. In late January 1945, Guimba had a role in the Cabanatuan Raid (The Great Raid) to liberate Cabanatuan POW Camp. On January 28, 1945 U.S. Army Rangers depart Calasiao and arrive at Guimba where they rendezvoused with eighty guerrillas and Filipino guides. During the raid, U.S. Army relayed intelligence to Guimba, which was relayed to the Rangers via SCR 694 radios "walkie-talkies". Next, they marched on a route chosen by civilians and rendezvous with Alamo Scouts and a second eighty man guerrilla force at Balincarin, about five miles northeast of the Cabanatuan, on January 29, 1945. After the successful raid, the POWs and wounded were treated at the U.S. Army 92nd Evacuation Hospital in Guimba. Contribute
