    San Bernardino Strait  Philippines
Location
The San Bernardino Strait is located in the Philippines connecting the Samar Sea to the Philippine Sea. To the north is the Bicol Peninsula on southeastern Luzon and to the south is Samar Island.

Wartime History
During the night of December 10, 1941 to December 11, 1941 minelayer Itsukushima laid 300 Type 93 sea mines in San Bernardino Strait.

During the Battle of Leyte Gulf during the night of October 24, 1944 to October 25, 1944 the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) "Central Force" made a night passage through San Bernardino Strait. Shortly after dawn the Japanese opened fire on Task Group 77.4 (TG-77.4) escort carriers and their escorts.
