Location
Peou Bay (Pallu Passage) is located on the southwest coast of Vanikoro Island (Vanikolo) in the Santa Cruz Island Group (Santa Cruz Islands) in Temotu Province in the Solomon Islands.

Wartime History
On October 11, 1942 at 2:30pm seaplane tender USS Ballard (AVD-10) arrives in Peou Bay. On October 15, 1942 at dawn departs Peou Bay and steamsand for the next three days supports PBY Catalinas from VP-91 flying search missions from this location 60 miles bearing 135°  and later in the day returns. On October 15, 1942 at 6:00am departs Peou Bay under orders from COMAIRSOPAC and steams 60 miles bearing 135° due to Japanese planes in the vicinity. At 9:30am spots a single float Japanese scout plane. At 11:50am reverses course and departs for Espiritu Santo. On October 25, 1942 at 12:30pm returns to Peou Bay. On October 26, 1942 ordered by COMTSK Group 63 to depart Peou Bay bound for Espiritu Santo.

On November 12, 1942 seaplane tender USS Mackinac (AVP-13) surveyed Peou Bay and Pallu Passage for flying boat operations and placed mooring buoys for PBY Catalinas and began tending an average of six flying boats each day.
