Wartime History
Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as Type 2 Mark 1 Model 2 Radar mounted on a trailer with an aerial search range of 31-93 miles / 50-150km.

During early 1943 transport to Shortland Harbor and emplaced on a hilltop on Poporang Island. Emplaced nearby was Type 2 Mark 1 Model 2 (No. 2). These two radars operated to provide an early warning system for incoming aircraft approaching the Shortland Islands area.

On April 18, 1943 this radar was not operational during the Yamamoto Mission "Operation Peacock" because an earlier air raid damaged a generator, leaving both radars without power and not operative that day.

Wreckage
This radar remains on the island. The instruments are broken and porcine post broken. Amazingly, the unit still rotates 360 degrees. Used as a merry-go-round by local children.
