From Here to Eternity (1951 Novel) Author James Jones enlisted in 1939 in the U.S. Army, 25th Infantry Division (25th ID) "Tropic Lightning", 27th Infantry Regiment "Wolfhounds" at Schofield Barracks on Oahu in Hawaii. This novel is considered a classic of war literature. Adapted into the film From Here to Eternity (1953 Hollywood Movie). In 2011, From Here to Eternity: The Restored Edition with a new afterwards by George Hendrick, Professor Emeritus, University of Illinois, exploring the editing and censorship process of From Here to Eternity. In 2012, From Here to Eternity The Complete Uncensored Edition was published by Bantam Doubleday Dell with a foreward by William Styron.
