The Long Campaign
The History of the 15th Fighter Group in World War II

This book is a history of the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF), 7th Air Force (7th AF), 15th Fighter Group in World War II. Activated in December 1940 as part of the Hawaiian Air Force. On December 7, 1941 the group had its baptism of fire when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and Oahu. Utilizing personal interviews with veterans as well as official records, the author creates a wartime chronicle of combat operations across the Central Pacific. The 15th fought on the first day of the war with P-40 Warhawks until the end of the Pacific War flying P-51 Mustangs on Very Long Range (VLR) missions from Iwo Jima against the mainland of Japan.
