Ship History Built by Winslow Marine Railway & Shipbuilding Company in Seattle, WA. Laid down June 19, 1942 as Auk-class minesweeper. Launched November 7, 1942 as USS Revenge the sixth ship in the Navy with the name. Commissioned July 21, 1943 in the U.S. Navy (USN) under the command of Comander F. F. Sima and underwent a fitting out at Puget Sound Navy Yard then to San Pedro and San Diego to the Small Craft Training Center and underwent a shakedown cruise off California. Wartime History On October 13, 1943 departs the west coast bound for Pearl Harbor and underwent intensive training. On November 10, 1943 departs for Makin Island arriving two days later and conducts minesweeping for two days then anti-submarine patrols off Makin and Tarawa. PARTIAL HISTORY On July 6, 1944 photographed with dazzle camouflage 32/1M off Hunters Point at San Francisco. PARTIAL HISTORY During July 1945 returns to Okinawa, but soon departed with a small minesweeping group bound for the East China Sea. On August 27, 1945 Revenge went alongside USS Ellyson (DMS-19) and embarked a Japanese pilot for the initial sweep of Tokyo Bay to chart channels and anchorages for U.S. warships. Postwar In September 1945 conducted a month of minesweeping operations in Tokyo Bay and off the coast of Japan. Next, based at Sasebo and with other minesweepers operates in the East China Sea and Straits of Formosa. On December 25, 1945 in Shanghai and during January 1946 returns to Sasebo then across the Pacific via San Pedro and the Panama Canal to Charleston for an overhaul and inactivation. On March 18, 1947 assigned to the Texas Group, Atlantic Reserve Fleet in Orange, Texas. On February 14, 1951 recommissioned as a training ship and operated off the east of the United States, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico. On March 7, 1955 reclassified as MSF-110. On March 9, 1955 decommissioned and assigned to the Florida Group, Atlantic Reserve Fleet, at Green Cove Springs in Florida. In 1961 transferred to the Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility in Orange, Texas. On November 1, 1966 struck from the Navy register and offered for sale. Fate In May 1967 sold for scrap and broken up. Awards For her World War II service, Revenge earned six battle stars.
