Ship History Built by the Mathis Yacht Building Company in Camden, New Jersey. Laid down March 10, 1943 as SC-497 Class Sub Chaser. Launched June 17, 1943. Commissioned on June 28, 1943. Designated USS SC-1072 for use as a submarine chaser. In late 1943, converted to a motor gunboat at South Coast Company, Newport Beach, California. Reclassified as Motor Gunboat and re-designated PGM-7 on December 10, 1943. Wartime History On January 1, 1944 moored at Terminal Island off San Pedro. Departed January 23 with PGM-1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 with USS Armadillo (IX-111) for Pearl Harbor arriving February 1. On February 12, 1944 departs for Palmyra with PGM-1, PGM-3, PGM-5 and PGM-8 arriving three days later. Then to Pago Pago arriving February 20, 1944. PARTIAL HISTORY On July 18, 1944 at 05:43 while at sea off Torokina this vessel was accidentally rammed by USS PGM-4 which impacted the engine room on the port side and began taking on water. Damaged, PGM-7 was towned to the Treasury Islands for temporary repairs. As of August 31, 1944 moored off Carter City at the Small Craft Repair Base on Florida Island (Nggela Sule). At the time a gasoline generator was used to provide power for the ship. At the time, the officers were living aboard the ship and the enlisted men were stationed ashore. The ultimate fate of this vessel is unknown. Possibly, it was sunk, scrapped or otherwise abandoned in the Solomons.
