Background
The 18th Reconnaissance Squadron (Medium) was assigned to the 22nd Bombardment Group (22nd BG). During 1941 operated from Langley Field in Virginia.

Wartime History
At the start of the Pacific War, sent overseas from the United States to Australia. On February 25, 1942 arrives Brisbane. On March 7, 1942 the Headquarters Squadron moves to Ipswich. On July 5, 1942 moves to Woodstock.

During September 1942, the Headquarters Squadron was disbaned and all bombers were assigned to other squadrons in the 22nd Bombardment Group (22nd BG).
