| Location Luliang Airfield was located at Luliang in Yunnan Province in the south center of China. Wartime History Luliang Airfield was used by U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) bombers and fighters in late 1944 until the end of the Pacific War. On December 1, 1944 a B-24 detachment from the 436th Bombardment Squadron (436th BS) began operating from Luliang Airfield to ferry gasoline to Suichwan Airfield. On December 17, 1944 they were joined by another B-24 detachment from 493rd Bombardment Squadron (493rd BS). On December 20, 1944 joined by another B-24 detachment from 492nd Bombardment Squadron (492nd BS). Gasoline ferry operations continue until January 1945. On March 4, 1945 eleven B-29 Superfortresses from the 20th Air Force (20th AF) staged from Luliang Airfield to drop aerial mines off Shanghai at the confluence of the Hwangpoo River and Yangtze River and Tai-hsing Narrows.
