| Location Lat 114°39'0" Long 26°25'0" Suichwan Airfield was located near in Jiangxi Province in south central China. Wartime History Starting in early October 1943 used by U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF), 14th Air Force (14th AF) and later 10th Air Force (10th AF) bomber, fighter and photographic reconassiance plane detachments as a forward base. On December 2, 1943 a Japanese air raid by 18 bombers and 30 Zekes strike Suichwan Airfield. They are intercepted by 9 P-40s that claim one shot down with 2 P-40s lost. On December 11, 1943 a Japanese air raid by about 30 planes bombs Suichwan and over Nanchang are intercepted by nine P-4os that claim 10 shot down. On December 27, 1943 a Japanese air raid by 36 Japanese planes bomb Suichwan Airfield destroying one B-25, the alert shack, and three fuel dumps. They are intercepted by P-40s that claim 4 shot down with one P-40 lost. On January 11, 1944 before daylight, 14 Japanese bombers hit Suichwan Airfield during the morning 3 medium bombers and 15 fighters follow up with a second strike; 7 P-51's and 5 P-40's intercept the second attack, claiming 3 medium bombers shot down. On February 12, 1944 a formation of 24 P-38s, P-51s, and P-40s intercept 25 Japanese fighters near Suichwan claiming 7 shot down; 2 US fighters are lost. On March 4, 1944 six waves of Japanese aircraft bomb Suichwan Airfield, causing considerable damage. On March 14, 1944 twenty Japanese bombers hit Hengyang Airfield and Suichwan Airfield and surprise the defenders that are unable to intercept effectively. On July 8, 1944 twenty Japanese aircraft bomb Suichwan Airfield, rendering it temporarily unusable. Japanese missions against Suichwan Airfield December 2, 1943–July 8, 1944 On December 1, 1944 a B-24 detachment from the 436th Bombardment Squadron (436th BS) began operating from Luliang Airfield to ferry gasoline to Suichwan Airfield. On December 17, 1944 they were joined by another B-24 detachment from 493rd Bombardment Squadron (493rd BS). On December 20, 1944 joined by another B-24 detachment from 492nd Bombardment Squadron (492nd BS). Gasoline ferry operations continue until January 1945. American units based at Suichwan 14th Air Force (14th AF) 23rd FG, 76th FS (P-40 detachment) Hengyang arrives October 3, 1943–December 7, 1943 departs Kweilin 23rd FG, 76th FS (P-40) Kweilin arrives December 26, 1943–June 1, 1944 departs Lingling 14th AF, 21st PRS (F-4, F-5 detachment) Kunming arrives Oct 26, 1943–June 26, 1944 departs Kunming returns November 12, 1944–January 22, 1945 depart Kunming 10th Air Force (10th AF) 341st BG, 11th BS (B-25 detachment) arrives June 1943–June 1944 departs Yang Tong 51st FG, 449th FS (P-38) Kunming arrives February 1, 1944–June 1, 1944 departs Kweilin On January 15, 1945 the Japanese Army begins an offensive along the along Chaling-Lienhwa road towards Suichwan Airfield. On January 29, 1945 Japanese Army occupies Suichwan Airfield. During July 1945, U.S. fighters strike targets around Suichwan.
