Location Lat 16° 1' 18N Long 120° 13' 55E Lingayen located at an elevation of 26' / 7m above sea level in 2nd District (District II) of Pangasinan Province in the Ilocos Region (Region I) of northern Luzon in the Philippines. Lingayen is the provincial capital of Pangasinan Province. Borders Lingayen Gulf to the north. To the east is Dagupan and beyond San Fabian. The mouth of the Ango River empties into Lingayen Gulf at this locaiton. Wartime History In late December 1941, occupied by the Japanese Army. During late December 1944 until early January 1945 attacked by American aircraft and subjected to Naval bombardment ahead of the amphibious landing at this location. American mission against Lingayen December 28, 1944–January 8, 1945 On January 9, 1945 U.S. Army 6th Army, XIV Corps, 40th Division landed at Lingayen then advanced inland to the south and westward to Saul. Afterwards, Lingayen was developed into a base area to support the U.S. Army advance southward. Lingayen Airfield Built prewar at Lingayen and used by the U.S. during the 1945 liberation and still in use today. Lingayen Capital Compound Located in a plaza behind the Pangasinan provincial capital includes several memorial plaques, a pavilion with photograph display, and collection of American wartime relics. Lingayen Beach (Orange Beach) On January 9, 1945 the US Army 6th Army, XIV Corps 40th Division landed at Lingayen, then moved inland to the south, and westward towards Sual. Located at Maniboc and Barrio Pangasinan in Lingayen. A plaque and statue of MacArthur mark the site of the landing. The plaque reads: "On this shore... the first combat troops of the Sixth Army of the United States of America under the command of General Douglas MacArthur landed 9 January 1945 to liberated the island of Luzon, thus fulfilling his promise to the Filipino people: 'I shall return' In fact, General Douglas MacArthur landed several days later on January 12, 1945.
