Location Lat 9° 15' 0S Long 159° 40' 60E Visale is located near Takolenduna on Cape Esperance on the northern coast of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. Borders Visale Bay and beyond Iron Bottom Sound to the north. Wartime History During the Guadalcanal campaign, occupied by the Japanese Army and used as a staging base area. On February 8, 1943 the U. S Army 132nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Battalion advancing from Maravovo (Marovovo) occupied Visale. Visale Catholic Mission Founded in 1904 by the Catholic missionaries. Occupied by the Japanese, it was used as a radio station location by the Japanese Army. Bombed by Americans and destroyed. During the Japanese occupation, SBD Dauntless piloted by Geiger dropped a 1,000 lbs bomb through the roof of the mission. Postwar, the mission was rebuilt and still in use today.
