Ship History Built by Electric Boat Company (Elco) in Bayonne, NJ. Laid down July 7, 1944 as 80' Elco Motor Torpedo Boat. Launched December 16, 1944 as PT-576 equipped with an Elco radar mast. Completed February 12, 1945 and entered service in the U.S. Navy (USN). Wartime History Assigned to Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 38 (MTBS 38). Nicknamed "Yuri Kaze", later "Night Wind" and finally "The Bitchin' Witch". On April 3, 1945 departs New York Navy Yard for a compass calibration then returns. On April 6, 1945 departs New York Navy Yard as one of four PT Boats: PT-573, PT-574, PT-575 and PT-576 motoring down the east coast bound for Miami and overnight at Cape May, NJ. On April 7, 1945 PT-573-PT-576 were moored at Morehead City, North Carolina. On April 9, 1945 moored at NAS Mayport near Jacksonville, Florida and the next day arrives Miami, Florida. On April 21, 1945 part of exercises with Destroyer Escort (DE) and PT Boats. On April 22, 1945 participated in a radar controlled torpedo firing exercise off Miami. On May 11, 1945 departs Miami with PT-573-PT-576 bound for the Canal Zon via Cuba, Jamacia, Columbia then Coco Solo arriving ten days later then transits the Panama Canal. On May 28, 1945 conducts exercises for the next several days. On June 2, 1945 embarked aboard SS Elmer A . Sperry as deck cargo including PT-573, PT-574, PT-575 and PT-576 and in the afternoon departs across the Pacific bound for the Philippines. During May 1945 operates from Guiuan on Samar Island and later operates from Basilan Island off Zamboanga on Mindanao. This PT Boat saw no combat in the Philippines. During early August 1945 strafed shore installations on Borneo. Postwar On September 28, 1945 assigned to Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 39 (MTBS 39). On December 24, 1945 placed out of service, stripped for usable parts. On January 8, 1946 struck from the Navy register. During May 1946 transferred to the State Department, Foreign Liquidation Commission and sold. Ultimate fate unknown, likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
