Location Lat 14° 29' Long 120° 34' Cabcaben Airfield was is located at sea level at Cabcaben on the southeast of the Bataan Peninsula in Bataan Province on Luzon in the Philippines. To the south roughly four kilometers away was Bataan Airfield on the east coast of the Bataan Peninsula, a quarter of a mile north of Cabcaben. Construction Built by the U.S. Army as a single runway with revetments, landing lights, a control tower, and anti-aircraft guns for defense and was completed by February 6, 1942. Wartime History On December 22, 1941 the 27th Bombardment Group temporarily transferred its personnel from Lipa Airfield (Fernando AFB) before departing on December 25, 1941 to Cabcaben Airfield. On February 6, 1942 when Cabcaben Airfield was completed, General Harold George ordered half his operational fighters to move to this location after dark and began operations. American units based at Cabcaben 27th BG, HQ 27th BG, 16th BS (ground echelon) Lipa December 22-25, 1941 - December 29, 1941 Bataan 27th BG, 17th BS (ground echelon) San Fernando December 25 - Dec 28, 1941 Limay 27th BG, 91th BS (ground echelon) San Marcelino December 25, 1941 - ? By April 8, 1942 the U.S. Army Provisional Coast Artillery Brigade (AA) serving as infantry defended the high ground to the south of Cabcaben Airfield and were the only Americans defending the line against the approaching Japanese.
