Location Pampanga Province is located in central Luzon in the Philippines. Borders Tarlac Province to the north, Nueva Ecija Province to the northeast, Bulacan Province to the east, Manila Bay to the south, Bataan Province to the southwest and the Zambales Mountains and Zambales Province to the west. Prewar In 1899, Major General MacArthur (father of Douglas MacArthur) established his headquarters at the Pamintuan residence, near what was developed into Clark Field. This area was developed by the U.S. Army with Fort Stotsenburg and Clark Field to defend Luzon. Wartime History At the start of the Pacific War on December 8, 1941 Japanese aircraft attacked Clark Field. After the Japanese landing on northern Luzon, the first U.S. Army and Filipino defensive line was in Pampanga Province, before falling back to the Bataan Peninsula. By January 1942 occupied by the Japanese Army during their occupation of the Philippines until early 1945. During late January 1945 and early February 1945 liberated by the U.S. Army and used as a military base and airfield area until the official surrender of Japan in September 1945.
