Background
On November 20, 1940 constituted as the 75th Bombardment Squadron (Medium) in the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF). On January 15, 1941 activated in the 42nd Bombardment Group (42nd BG) "The Crusaders" equipped with the B-18 Bolo at Fort Douglas Airfield west of Salt Lake City in Utah. On June 6, 1941 moves to Boise, Idaho.

Wartime History
On January 19, 1942 moves to Portland Army Airfield in Portland conducts training, anti-submarine patrols and transitioned to the B-25 Mitchell. On March 15, 1943 begins a movement overseas to the South Pacific (SoPAC) and assigned to the 13th Air Force (13th AF).

On April 18, 1943 arrives Plaine Des Gaiacs Airfield on New Caledonia and performs sea search missions.

On April 22, 1943 lost is B-25D Mitchell pilot 2nd Lt. Robert T. Brunson ditched off New Caledonia with all but one crew member killed and missing.

On July 17, 1943 moves to Henderson Field on Guadalcanal.

On October 21, 1943 moves to Renard Field in the Russell Islands.

On January 20, 1944 moves to Stirling Airfield in the Treasury Islands.

On February 20, 1944 thirty-five B-25s from the 75th BS and 69th BS took off from Stirling Airfield on a medium altitude bombing mission against Lakunai Airfield near Rabaul. Lost is B-25 Mitchell pilot 1st Lt. Ernest G. Keefer (survived) later rescued by PBY Catalina.

On June 5, 1944 lost is B-25C Mitchell 42-64705 pilot 1st Lt. Howard L. Myers (MIA) on a bombing mission against Rabaul.

On June 15, 1944 the Far East Air Force (FEAF) was reformed and combined the 5th Air Force (5th AF) in the South West Pacific Area (SWPA) and 13th Air Force (13th AF) in the South Pacific (SOPAC).

On August 27, 1944 moves to Hollandia in western New Guinea.

On September 20, 1944 moves to Sansapor Airfield in western New Guinea. On February 22, 1945 a B-25 detachment begins operating from Pitu Airfield (Pitoe) on Morotai. On March 20, 1945 the detachment returns to Sansapor Airfield.

On March 22, 1945 moves to Puerto Princesa Airfield on Palawan Island until the end of the Pacific War.

Postwar
On January 31, 1946 moves to Itami Airfield north of Osaka on Honshū in Japan. On May 10, 1946 inactivated. On February 19, 1953 redesignated 75th Bombardment Squadron (Heavy). On February 25, 1953 reactivated in the 42nd Bombardment Wing (42nd BW) operating the B-36 Peacemaker at Limestone Air Force Base in Maine. During 1956 begins operating the B-52 Stratofortress. On October 15, 1959 assigned to the 4039th Strategic Wing at Griffiss Air Force Base near Rome, New York. On February 1, 1963 discontinued, inactivated.

Emblem
On November 22, 1943 the squadron emblem was approved, designed by Walt Disney of a parrot atop a bomb looking through a telescope inside a circle with a double black border line.
