    Northern Territory (NT)  Australia
Location
The Northern Territory (NT) encompasses the central and northern central region of Australia. Also known as simply Northern Territory and abbreviated NT. Borders Queensland to the east, South Australia to the south and Western Australia to the west. To the north borders the Timor Sea, Arafura Sea and Gulf of Carpentaria. The Stuart Highway connects Darwin southward via Tennant Creek then onward to Alice Springs and ends at Port Augusta in South Australia.

Wartime History
During the Pacific War, Darwin was targeted by Japanese aircraft and subjected to air raids. The entire Darwin area was developed into many airfields and bases used by the Allies for the duration of the Pacific War.


Darwin  located on the coast bordering Darwin Harbor and beyond the Timor Sea.
Darwin Harbor  borders Darwin on the north coast of Australia.
Cox Peninsula  located to the southwest of Darwin.
Batchelor  located to the south of Darwin.
Adelaide River  located near Darwin includes Adelaide River Airfield and Adelaide River Cemetery.
Brocks Creek  located roughly 100km south of Darwin includes Fenton Airfied.
Gove  located on the Gove Peninsula includes Gove Airfield (Nhulunbuy).
Pine Creek  located roughly 100km south of Darwin.
Manbulloo  inland location along the Stewart Highway.
Katherine  inland location along the Stewart Highway.
Daly Waters (Dalys Waters)  located in the inland.

Offshore Islands
Millingimbi Island (Yurruwi)  located off the north coast includes Millingimbi Airfield.
Melville Island  located to the north of Darwin.
Bathurst Island  located to the north of Darwin includes Bathurst Island Airfield.
Groote Eylandt  located to the east of Darwin includes Groote Eylandt Airfield.

Darwin Field (RAAF Station Darwin, RAAF Darwin)  located in Darwin, still in use today as Darwin Airport.
Parap Field (Darwin Civil Aerodrome, Ross Smith Aerodrome)  located in the suburb of Parap in Darwin.
Strauss Field (28 Mile)  located to the south of Darwin.
Hughes Field (30 Mile)  located to the south of Darwin.
Livingston Field (34 Mile)  located to the roughly 34 miles south of Darwin.
Coomalie Creek Airfield (Coomalie Airfield)  located to the south of Batchelor and east of Batchelor.
Batchelor Field (RAAF Batchelor)  located to the south of Batchelor and Darwin.
Pell Field  located to the south of Darwin to the northwest is Batchelor and to the north is Coomalie Creek.
Adelaide River Field  located to the south of the Adelaide River.
Payne Field  located near the Adelaide River.
Fenton Field  located near Brocks Creek.
Blyth No. 1 ELS  emergency landing ground southwest of Darwin.
Reynolds No. 4 ELS  emergency landing ground southwest of Darwin.
Woolyanna No. 8B ELS  emergency landing ground south of Darwin.
Tipperary No. 9 ELS  emergency landing ground south of Darwin.
Millingimbi Airfield  located on Millingimbi Island (Yurruwi).
Bathurst Island Airfield  located on Bathurst Island.
Groote Eylandt Airfield  located on Groote Eylandt Island.
Groote Eylandt Seaplane Base  located on Groote Eylandt Island.
Snake Bay Airport  located on Melville Island built postwar.
