Location
Gavutu Harbor is located to the east of Gavutu Island, Tanambogo Island, Palm Island (Gaomi) spanning eastward to Halavo Bay off Florida Island (Nggela Sule, Big Gela).

Wartime History
During World War II, Gavutu Harbor was used as a seaplane operating area for Gavutu Seaplane Base (Tulagi Seaplane Base, Tanambogo Seaplane Base) with a seaplane ramp and facilities on Gavutu Island.

Gavutu Harbor was used by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Catalinas during late 1939 until May 1942. After the Japanese occupation, used by the Imperial Japanese Navy until August 7, 1942. For the remainder of 1942 used by the U.S. Navy (USN) and later the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) until the end of the war.
