Location
Roviana Lagoon borders the southern coast of New Georgia Island from Olsen's Landing to the west of Munda and continues westward. The southern edge of the lagoon is formed by a number of barrier islands includng Ndora Island, Baraulu Island, Onaiavisi Channel, Sasavele Island (Dume Island) and Roviana Island. Beyond to the south is Blanche Channel. The Japanese referred to this location as "Rubiana". Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the British Solomon Islands Protectorate (BSIP). Today located in Western Province in the Solomon Islands.

Wartime History
During April 1942, the Roviana area was occupied by the Japanese. On September 20, 1942 a pair of SBDs saw large number of personnel and bomb and strafe bombed and strafed a village they believed was on Gizo. In fact, they attacked a village at Roviana (Rubiana). Tragically, the villagers were friendly to the Allied cause and the truth was later reported by an Allied Coastwatcher in the area.
